Show jumpers take gallop towards fundraising target

MORE than 700 show jumping professionals and enthusiasts saddled up this weekend, in a bid to raise almost €10,000 for a disabled children's school.

The Newcastle Grand Prix Horse Show at Ballymoney Park Stud, Kilbride, Co Wicklow, saw children and adults travel from all over Ireland, to raise funds for the St Catherine's Day Care Centre.

The two-day event, which kicked off at 9am on Saturday and finished last night, featured more than 30 competitions for show jumpers from eight-year-olds upward.

The Grand Prix, also featured a host of big names from the show jumping world, such as Paul O'Shea and Ken McMahon in demonstrating their skills over the course.

The competition, which was sponsored by a prize fund of €7,000 from Bloxham Stockbrokers was won by show jumping professional Edward Doyle on the horse Samgemjee.
