The owner of the lucky shop that sold the winning ticket for the €4.4m weekend Lotto jackpot has wasted no time in getting the message out.

Delighted Austin Daly, of Daly's Topaz in the Border town of Lifford, Co Donegal, said there was an incredible buzz about the town since the winner had been announced at the weekend.

His shop has just undergone a massive renovation, including a huge digital screen that Mr Daly used to announce it had sold the winning ticket.

The sign read: "OMG! Check your tickets. We sold this week's winning €4.4m Lotto ticket."

"We didn't waste much time after it sunk in to let people know," Mr Daly said.

"We're so excited for whoever has won the Lotto.

"I'm hoping it will be someone local, but it could be anyone with the amount of passing trade we get because we are so close to the Border."

The winning numbers were 1, 2, 7, 33, 34, 40 and the bonus was 6.
