Shop owner launches Willie Wonka search for golden All-Ireland ticket

A MAYO businessman is set to give away a ticket to the All-Ireland final in a Willie Wonka style giveaway in Co Donegal.

Enda Heneghan runs the Aunty Nellies traditional Irish sweet shop on Letterkenny’s Main Street.

And between now and next Friday one lucky customer will win a ‘golden’ ticket to the Croke Park clash between Donegal and Mayo on Sunday week – inside a lucky bag.

Said Enda: “It’s a bit of craic. We managed to get our hands on one ticket because they are like gold dust and I thought it would be good to give it away in a competition.

“We don’t sell Willie Wonka chocolate bars but we did want to do something traditional so we are placing a token inside one of our €2 lucky bags and someone will be very lucky; the winner will get a ticket to the final.

“It’s the Irish equivalent of a golden ticket – a ticket to the All-Ireland final.”

The Ballinrobe-born businessman says he has no qualms about who wins the prize – even if it’s almost certain to be a Donegal fan.

“I suppose I’m giving a ticket to the enemy,” he laughed, “but sure I live and work in Letterkenny these days, so I’ll be delighted for whoever wins it.”

The shop won’t say how many lucky bags will be available for the ticket giveaway – to give everyone a chance.

“We don’t want someone walking in to the shop and buying the whole lot just so they can get the ticket. That would be unfair,” said Mr Heneghan.
