A gate house at Dublin’s Dunsink Observatory was ablaze yesterday evening after a car was driven into it and set alight.

Fortunately, the North County Dublin observatory which was built in 1785 was not damaged.

Despite the best efforts from the Dublin Fire Brigade, the front of the gate house and its roof were severely damaged.

A similar incident took place on the Clonshaugh Road in Dublin 17 yesterday morning.

Dublin Fire Brigade has said it is too early to say if the incidents are part of a trend.
