The family and friends of Jamie Doherty are gathering together to support each other as they prepare to pay him their final farewell this week.

Jamie (14), from Moville, Co Donegal, was killed just after 5pm on Friday when the car he was driving crashed.

It happened at Tullyally in Upper Clar in north-east Inishowen, Co Donegal.

Now his family have made arrangements for the funeral to take place in the local parish at 11am on Thursday.

Jamie was alone in the car when it crashed and was killed instantly as the car turned on its side. No other vehicle was involved.

The local community has been left devastated by the tragedy.

The boy's mother and father, Shane and Evelyn, were being comforted by their neighbours and friends over the weekend.

"The family are still very much in shock and can't believe what has happened. Because a post mortem had to take place, the funeral has been arranged for Thursday morning," one local, who didn't want to be named, told the Irish Independent.

"Of course the whole community here is praying for them and for the young lad."
