Leaving Certificate students at a school in Meath were in mourning today after one of their friends died suddenly from a suspected heart attack.

The 17 year old is believed to have taken ill while on a school bus home from a 6th year end of year graduation ceremony.

She was a popular pupil at Boyne Community College in Trim, county Meath.

The girl lived in the Knightsbrook estate just outside the town with her father and her sister.

Sources said that valiant efforts were made by the paramedics who responded to the emergency call to the bus in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The bus had brought students back from the ceremony at the Hamlet at Johnstown Bridge.

A garda spokesman said, “at this time gardai are not treating the death as suspicious,” while another garda said, “this is a pure tragedy.”

Trim based deputy Ray Butler said, “I send my condolences to her family and friends. I cannot imagine what they are going through. I have talked to a lot of people and young people in the town today and everyone is devastated.
