Shatter's steamy book rushed out
THE reprint of 'Laura', the steamy 1989 novel by Justice Minister Alan Shatter, is being rushed out by the publishers to meet demand from bookshops.
Originally scheduled for late July or early August, Poolbeg has now brought forward the publication date for the new edition to Friday, June 28.
"Everyone is asking about the book so we're pulling out all the stops to get it out as fast as possible," Poolbeg publishing director Paula Campbell said.
"With all the publicity recently, people are going into shops looking for the book, which has not been available for years."
When the book was first published in 1989 it was a bestseller, selling 20,000 copies at the time. The novel recounts a torrid affair between a TD opposed to abortion, the fictional Deputy Sean Brannigan, and his secretary, Colette, who becomes pregnant, and includes a steamy sex scene in his Leinster House office.
Ms Campbell says that the reprint is going ahead with Mr Shatter's approval.
"His office has also been getting a lot of calls requesting copies of the book.
"The cover will remain the same as the original because it has that nostalgia look that is popular at the moment."
