A PRIME suspect in the murder of serial criminal Stephen "Madser" Byrne was among seven people being quizzed last night by gardai about the shooting.

Detectives arrested five men and two women in swoops on homes in Dublin's north inner city yesterday morning and all were being held at garda stations around the capital last night.

One of the suspects arrested is in his late teens and is believed by gardai to be central to their inquiries.

Four other men, ranging in age from their 20s to one in his 50s, were also detained.

The two women were being held on suspicion of withholding information about a crime.

Byrne (33), of Mariner's Port, Sheriff Street, Dublin, was the fifth victim of an inner feud, which erupted the arrest and conviction of the gang's leader, Christy Griffin for the rape of his partner's daughter.
