A BOOK featuring forgotten stately homes around the country has proved such a hit it has sparked a sequel.

Property developers, historians and photography fans are just some of the buyers who snapped up 'Abandoned Mansions' by Tarquin Blake.

First published in 2010, it has sold 10,000 copies, an unheard of figure for an Irish coffee-table book, leading to a second volume, 'Abandoned Mansions of Ireland II', out this week.

"Twenty years ago a book like this wouldn't have got much attention, but we have a generation now who want to know the stories about these big houses," Mr Blake said.

The book, published by Collins Press, will cost €27.99.
