Gardai were called to rescue a toddler from a hot car after the child's mother accidentally locked her keys inside the car.

The incident happened on Sunday evening at the Square in Tallaght where temperatures reached 26 degrees.

According to the Irish Daily Star, on-site security officers and a garda member were called to rescue the child.

It's believed the child's mother was putting shopping into her car boot when she locked the keys inside the car.

The garda member used a small mallet to break the glass window and the child was safely taken from the car.
