Security alert as pipe bomb found in Belfast

A pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police said.

The viable device was discovered this morning in the Spamount Street area, prompting a security alert.

The road was closed and a number of homes were evacuated.

Army technical officers made the device safe.

The road has been reopened and residents allowed to return to their homes.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
