A SECOND garda has been suspended from the force as part of an investigation into alleged involvement with a cocaine dealer.
The first garda, who had been held in custody for questioning since his arrest on Monday, has now been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The arrest of the garda followed lengthy inquiries by a special team of detectives, led by Supt John McMahon, of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The garda, who was taken to Kevin Street station for questioning, is based in a station on the southside of the capital and has been in the force for a number of years.
He remains suspended from the force despite his release yesterday evening.
The second garda, who is based at the same station and works alongside the other garda, was informed of his suspension yesterday afternoon.
But officers stressed last night that he had not been detained for questioning although he had been interviewed at length by the investigation team.
Other members of the station party have not been interviewed.
