The search for missing man David McMahon has been stood down for the evening in Kilkee, Co Clare.

Garda divers were on scene throughout the day, but the conditions ensured it was too dangerous to enter the water.

Searching will resume again in the morning. A large portion of the cliff walk has been sealed off by gardai this evening.

A preliminary operation to retrieve the boat which was carrying the late Caitriona Lucas and two of her coast guard colleagues, James Lucey and Jenny Carway is underway. The badly damaged boat could be seen today near a cave.

It is expected that a coastguard helicopter will be called in to retrieve the boat.

Coastguard staff in both Kilkee and Doolin have been relieved from duty following Monday's tragedy and volunteers from flank stations in Co Kerry and Co Galway have instead been drafted in.
