Jane O'Faherty

The search for a fisherman missing off the Wicklow coast has been called off for the night.

RNLI units from Arklow, Wicklow and Rosslare will continue to search for the man, who is believed to have gone overboard off the Arklow coast at around 9am.

The Irish Coastguard and the rescue helicopter from Waterford were also involved in the operation, which continued until darkness fell.

The search will resume at 9am on Thursday morning.

The fisherman, who has not been named, is believed to be a local man aged in his late-40s or early 50s.

It’s understood that he is a lobster and crab fisherman, and that he was among a crew of three on board the vessel.
