'Sea of blood' as gang of eight leave man fighting for life after stabbing
A CHINESE man is fighting for life in hospital after he was stabbed repeatedly in the head, back and leg.
Up to eight men with hammers, knives and possibly a machete attacked the 29-year-old in Capel Street, Dublin, just before 2am yesterday.
He was found lying on the pavement outside the popular BBQ Restaurant & Karaoke Bar and rushed to the Mater Hospital where he remained in a critical condition last night.
A second man, who is also Chinese, was driven to St James's Hospital in the back of a taxi about an hour later.
He received treatment for stab injuries to his back, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
Gardai believe both men know each other and were attacked by the same group.
Officers are examining CCTV footage taken from neighbouring restaurants and shops.
Two mobile phones were also recovered from the scene.
One witness told the Irish Independent there was a "sea of blood" surrounding the man who was discovered semi-conscious on the pavement.
"I've never seen so much blood in all my days, you can see his bloody hand-print on the window of the restaurant," he said.
Staff told the Irish Independent that the restaurant was closed at the time of the attack and that only a few customers saw what happened outside.
Gardai cordoned off the area and a forensic examination was carried out by members of the garda technical bureau.
