School's charity sleep-out gets star backing
The son of Boyzone singer Keith Duffy has used his star contacts to raise as much money as possible for his school's annual sleep-out in aid of the homeless.
Jay Duffy (18), a sixth-year student at Belvedere College in Dublin, enlisted the help of One Direction's Niall Horan to drum up support for the initiative which hopes to raise more than €140,000 for charities including Focus Ireland and the Peter McVerry Trust.
Niall tweeted "good luck" to the 75 boys taking part in the sleep-out and the link www.sleepoutdublin.ie to make donations. His two tweets were then retweeted more than 50,000 times each.
And last night, U2's The Edge spent some time with the boys before presenting them with a cheque for an undisclosed amount.
Jay said he and his schoolmates were "tired and sore" after their first night spent sleeping on O'Connell Street and College Green, but were up early yesterday with their collection buckets. "It's a strange experience waking up on O'Connell Street. I've never done anything like this before."
