THE iconic Guinness gates have been painted rainbow-coloured to support Europe's biggest LGBT rugby tournament, which takes place in Dublin next week.

Guinness are sponsors of the Union Cup tournament, which will be held at DCU on June 8 and 9. It will feature 45 teams from 15 countries, including, for the first time, 10 women's teams from Ireland.

Richie Fagan, who plays with the Emerald Warriors, a Dublin-based all-inclusive club, is also chairman of the Union Cup. He said that, on the back of Ireland voting in favour of same-sex marriage in 2015, the tournament would further paint the country in a positive light.

He said we needed to see more members of the LGBT community involved in sport.
