Samsung to investigate 'exploding phone' claim
SAMSUNG is to probe claims by a smartphone user that his mobile phone inexplicably exploded while he was driving.
"I was driving along with my Galaxy S3 in my car mount when suddenly a white flame, sparks and a bang came out of the phone," the Dublin man said.
The phone user, who wishes to remain anonymous, also claimed that Samsung gave him a replacement phone along with some "free stuff".
"There is no confirmation that it was a fault with the phone. It may actually have been caused by a combination of my car mount and my car's heating system," he said
A Samsung spokeswoman said the firm was "aware of the issue and will begin investigating when we receive the specific product in question".
"Once the investigation is complete, we will be able to provide further details on the situation."
But she ruled out initiating a product recall.
