Safety tests for cycle route 'traffic lights'
EXPERIMENTAL bicycle lights are to be tested on the €5.8m cycle route linking Dublin's Royal and Grand canals.
The route, which has missed two completion deadlines, is now due to open in March, according to a spokesman for Dublin City Council.
The council said UK safety consultants would monitor the miniature lights and unique traffic sequence. The bicycle lights are to turn flashing amber for cyclists, while pedestrians will have a flashing green light. Cyclists are expected to yield to pedestrians while the lights are still flashing.
