Russian student (16) killed by car after getting off bus in Dublin

A RUSSIAN schoolgirl studying in Dublin died tragically when she was struck by a vehicle after she got off a bus and attempted to cross the road.

The 16-year-old had just stepped off a 145 bus at a stop on the N11 dual carriageway at Stillorgan, south Dublin, before she was struck by a car at around 9.15pm on Friday night.

It is understood her body was thrown against the bus with the force of the impact.

Southbound lanes of the dual carriageway on the junction between Kilmacud Road and N11 were closed for around an hour following the incident.

The student received medical treatment but died at the scene. Her body was removed to St Vincent's Hospital.

The student was not named and officials were last night still trying to contact the girl's family in Russia. She had been staying with a host family on the nearby Lower Kilmacud Road.

A Dublin Bus spokesperson said the girl was a passenger before she exited at the bus stop. Gardai are examining CCTV footage from the bus.
