Runners in for rocking time on race route

UP to 8,000 runners will take to the streets this summer for the country's first Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon.

Live bands will play along the 13-mile route, which takes in some of city's iconic and historic landmarks, including Christ Church, the Guinness brewery, and Aras an Uachtarain in the Phoenix Park.

A two-day Health and Fitness Expo kicks off race weekend on August 3 and 4. The free expo is open to the public and will feature the latest in running apparel and nutrition products.

The race, sponsored by the Irish Independent, will debut on Bank Holiday Monday, August 5, starting and finishing at St Stephen's Green.

It has been announced that Meteor Choice Awards winners Delorentos will take to the stage at the finish line, with other live bands and local musical talent at each mile of the route.

More than 1,200 runners from the US have already entered, securing it as a successful event for The Gathering 2013.

Online registration for the race is open at
