Rumours rife over mystery Lotto winners
PEOPLE were afraid to leave their homes to do a bit of shopping in two small towns yesterday lest they be accused of being the mystery Lotto winners.
The rumour mills in two small communities in counties Cork and Cavan had gone into overdrive last night with speculation about the owners of two tickets which each won just over €7m in the weekend Lotto draw.
Padraig McCormack, who sold the winning ticket at his store Pat's on Main Street, Kingscourt, Co Cavan, was none the wiser about the identity of the multi-millionaire winner yesterday afternoon.
"We still have no idea who it is. The rumours are flying about the place, but really it could have been anyone. It is very exciting, the town is buzzing with it," he said.
The rumour mill was also sent into orbit in Kinsale Co Cork, as locals speculated as to the identity of their winner.
But SuperValu owner Michael Smith, the vendor of the winning ticket, yesterday said he was certain the identity of the mystery multi-millionaire wouldn't be kept under wraps for long.
"We're a small town and everybody is talking about it so the news is bound to get out sooner or later," he said.
