The RTÉ website has returned after being down for several hours this morning, Tuesday.

Visitors to the site of the national broadcaster were greeted by an error message.

The RTÉ Player and Radio Player apps were also not working.

A check on the isitdownrightnow.com service indicated that the RTE.ie website had been down “for everyone” for around ten hours.

The site and apps returned to service just after 8am.

Ordinary broadcasts were still going ahead this morning.

A spokesperson for RTÉ this morning told Independent.ie: “We can confirm that there is a technical issue, and our team are working to resolve it as quickly as we can.”

An internal email to staff this morning said that overnight there were interruptions to internet services on the Donnybrook campus “which were as a result of network upgrade works”.

It is not known whether the problems were related to outages at Cloudflare, an internet infrastructure provider that powers much of the web, which caused many websites to stop working properly overnight.
