RTE mourns loss of Colm Murray's sister Cathy

THE sister of RTE broadcaster Colm Murray has passed away suddenly at the age of 56.

Cathy Murray (pictured) died at her home last night of natural causes. The mother-of-two, who has a son and daughter in their 20s, was based in Killiney, Co Dublin, and enjoyed a career in RTE radio for more than 30 years.

She worked as a production assistant in young people's programmes for RTE television and was involved in the production of the 1994 'Eurovision Song Contest'.

She then joined the 'Morning Ireland' team in 2003, after spending time on 'Liveline', 'The Marian Finucane Show' and 'Today with Pat Kenny'.

Presenter Pat Kenny said it was "a double blow" for his colleague Colm, who suffers from motor neurone disease (MND) and recently lost his voice.

"We are very sad to learn of Cathy's death," an RTE spokesperson said. "Cathy has worked with RTE since 1979 and was an immensely popular and valued colleague. RTE would like to express its deepest sympathy to all her family."
