RTE loses as lyrics show makes a mint

THE LYRICS BOARD, among the most critically panned television shows ever seen on RTE, has made a multimillion fortune for its creators but Montrose has missed out on its astounding international success because it was an independent production.

The show which ran for five seasons on RTE, attracting a healthy 450,000 viewers, is now franchised to 21 countries, with 25 million Russian viewers and it remains one of the most popular shows ever seen in Finland.

The Lyrics Board was created by former 2FM DJ Andy Ruane and former Gay Byrne radio-show producer Phillip Kampff. The Lyrics Board, Wanderlust and the quiz show It's not the Answer are all shows that were shown originally on RTE but were produced independently so the national broadcaster missed out on the multimillion profits associated with their international success.
