Rose Dervla blossoms in lavender

THE Taoiseach's niece and godchild got in some downtime ahead of her preparations for the Rose of Tralee Castle Durrow at the weekend.

Mayo Rose Dervla Kenny (26), right, is pictured with Louth Rose Patricia Marmion in the Lavender Gardens in the picturesque grounds of the Laois castle.

Both women will compete in the famous festival, which kicks off in Tralee on August 17.

Dervla, from Ballyvary, is an occupational therapist, who works in the acquired and traumatic brain injury programme at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire.

The young Rose also loves the outdoors and has taken part in many charity events, including the Ring of Kerry cycle.

Dervla says she loves to travel and wants to visit all the islands off the coast of Ireland and climbing to Mount Everest base camp.
