A French piano player who sails around the world performing concerts aboard her boat is arriving in Ireland this month to begin a series of performances in west Cork and Kerry, before sailing to Co Galway.

As part of the unusual Pianocean Project, Marieke Huysmans has installed an upright piano on her sailboat Lady Flow, and is travelling here to tickle the ivories on deck in harbour towns and villages including Baltimore, Schull, Dingle, Kinvara, Roundstone and Kilronan in the coming weeks.

Ms Huysmans (30) began the project about five years ago, and has spent much of that time sailing and performing on her onboard piano.

Pianocean says Ms Huysmans aims to be "an ambassador for free international culture, lived and shared across the seas".

She explained: "I compose my songs during the voyage and record on board each of my albums."

She added that she particularly enjoys playing on islands.

The Lady Flow and its pianist will begin its visit in Baltimore on June 29 and 30.
