Roadworthy: Our highways are the sixth safest in Europe
Our roads are safer than you might think. A new report published today by the European Transport Council reveals that Irish roads are now the sixth safest in all of Europe.
Only Sweden, Britain, Malta, the Netherlands and Germany are ahead of Ireland in terms of road safety.
Since 2001, Ireland has reduced the number of people killed on the country's roads by almost 50pc, which – considering the increased volume of traffic in the same period – is a remarkable reduction.
The improvement in the Irish road network in that time - and the television ad campaigns - have been credited for the improvement.
