River drowning

A man accidentally drowned when he fell over a low wall on his way home from the pub and landed face down in a shallow river, an inquest has heard.

Michael Doyle (49), from Prospect View in Rathfarnham, was found in the Owendoher River on the Edmonstown Road, close to his home on the evening of August 3 last year.

Recording a verdict of death by misadventure, the coroner's court heard a barrier has since been erected at the site.

By-election candidate

A newly-elected councillor from Tallaght has been selected to contest the Dublin South West by-election for the People Before Profit Party.

Nicky Coules is a retired plumber who has lived in Jobstown, in south Dublin, for the past 30 years. He was elected as a councillor in the local elections in May.

Pipeline application

PLANNING permission for a proposed aviation fuel pipeline between Dublin Port and Dublin Airport will be lodged before the end of the year.

The application by engineering and project management firm Fingleton White & Co will be made to both Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council, the two local authorities on the proposed route of the pipeline.

New commissioner

'serial entrepreneur' Niamh Bushnell has been appointed Dublin's first Commissioner for Start Ups. She will work in conjunction with Dublin City Council and Enterprise Ireland to maximise the potential of emerging businesses across the capital.
