Rising star soaks up festival atmosphere
IN a few short months, her mother has gone from recording her songs when she hears them on the radio to reading about her daughter in 'Hot Press' magazine.
Aisling Monds is getting used to her daughter's rising popularity and to accompanying her to music festivals.
Bridie Monds-Watson, aka Soak – a combination of soul and folk – was one of the youngest artists to perform at 'Other Voices' in Dingle, Co Kerry, this weekend.
The 16-year-old will also perform at 'Other Voices' when it travels to Derry in February and London in April.
"I didn't know much about it except that it was very prestigious," she told the Irish Independent.
"Then Philip King invited me down to play. To be here is such a privilege," she said.
The three-day music festival finishes tonight at St James's Church in Dingle.
Other acts to perform included Villagers and The Strypes.
The 11th series of 'Other Voices', presented by actor Aiden Gillen, will be broadcast on RTE in the new year.
