Right side of the track for fox family home
A FAMILY of foxes has taken up residence at one of the country's busiest train stations.
The animals have been living under the southbound platform at Pearse Station in Dublin for at least three months.
An eagle-eyed passenger snapped one of the clan making its way into its den and posted the image on Twitter yesterday.
However, an Irish Rail spokeswoman said this was a rare sighting.
"They usually only come out at night but sometimes people on the other platform can see them," she said. "We had a nature programme in recently but they didn't get them. They're there about three months," she added.
While it is quite common for urban foxes to set up home in busy city train stations in other countries, this is believed to be the first occasion the species has done so in Ireland.
"We're happy enough to have them and we have consulted with the DSPCA about it," said the spokeswoman.
