Rider feels 'lucky' to escape with 16 stitches after drama
IRISH international show jumper Dave Quigley last night described himself as "lucky" after a crunching fall during the Puissance competition at the RDS, writes Louise Parkes.
Mr Quigley (38), originally from Co Wexford but based in Shropshire, England, was taken to hospital for observation and received 16 stitches to a facial injury.
The rider said his horse Valetto JX had "twisted a bit" as he attempted a fence. "I fell underneath him and he caught me on the chest and face with his hoof."
Mr Quigley, who flew back to England yesterday, said he was uncertain if he had been momentarily knocked out as he had lain still on the ground before eventually walking bloodied from the arena.
