Revenue officers and gardaí seize almost €12k of cigarettes and counterfeit vodka
Revenue officers and gardaí seized €11,800 worth of cigarettes and counterfeit vodka in a raid in Co Limerick.
Approximately 20,000 cigarettes and 24 litres of counterfeit vodka were being transported at the time of the seizure.
Gardaí and officers also seized the vehicle in which the vehicle was being transported.
A man in his fifties and a woman in her thirties, both Irish, were questioned about the incident which occurred in Annacotty, Co Limerick.
The vodka and seized cigarettes, which were branded ‘Excellence’, are understood to have combined retail value of approximately €11,800.
Revenue say this seizure is part of their ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy.
The seizure comes just days after a separate incident in which gardaí seized a stash of cannabis and approximately 4,000 ecstasy tablets which were destined for college students' 'Rag Week' market.
Two men were arrested after a search was conducted by Revenue and gardaí from Galway's Regional Drugs Unit.
The drugs seized had an estimated value of approximately €50,000.
It is believed the drugs were destined for the 'Rag Week' market in Galway.
