Revenue dog sniffs out €23,500 in woman’s carry-on baggage at Dublin Airport

CARBY, a sniffer dog with Revenue’s Customs Service, helped seize thousands of euro in cash at Dublin Airport today.

A 40-year-old woman from Thailand was stopped and searched during a routine cash-dog operation as she was about to board a flight to Amsterdam en-route to Bangkok.

Carby gave an indication and the €23,500 was discovered by officers concealed in her carry-on baggage.

The cash was seized by Revenue in accordance with Section 38, Criminal Justice Act 1994 as amended by Section 20, Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005.

In Dublin District Court this morning, officers were granted a three month detention order, in respect of the cash, by Judge Brian Smith in order to carry out further investigations.
