A Revenue detector dog with a very appropriate name sniffed out a huge sum of cash during a search yesterday.

The dog, named Bill, was involved in an operation in Dundalk yesterday targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products.

During the search of two houses in the Louth town, Bill discovered more than €24,500 in cash which is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity, and was seized in accordance with the proceeds of crime legislation.

At Drogheda District Court today officers were granted a three month detention order to facilitate further investigation.
