Chewbacca, Pirlo and Olaf... Humans may be inspired by their favourite famous faces when it comes to naming their pets, but the majority are still calling their furry friends after their own counterparts.
Human names like Molly, Charlie and Oscar are still dominating the top 20 names for dogs and cats in 2015, it has been revealed.
However, other pet-owners are taking up the challenge of choosing a more unique moniker.
Italian soccer player Andrea Pirlo may be flattered to hear that his name is gracing kennels and cat mats across the nation, while 'Frozen' fans are still reluctant to 'let it go' and have called their furry friends after 'Olaf' the snowman.
Meanwhile, Star Wars is another emerging pet name trend with R2 D2, Chewbacca and Kylo Rens steadily climbing the pet name stakes.
The survey comes courtesy of Just Cats Veterinary Clinic in Clonsilla, Dublin as vet Aoife Caulfield made it her mission to survey over 70,000 cats and dogs from clinics across Dublin, Meath and Kildare last year.
The survey has revealed that Charlie has knocked Molly off the top dog spot, while Kitty has managed to hold onto the feline lead.
There were some new entries in the top cat names with Shadow (8) and Coco (10) knocking Lucy and Oscar (last years 9 and 10) out of the running.
For dogs, Rocky jumped from 14 to 8 this year, knocking Buddy out of the top 10.
Human names predominate the top 20 for both species with names like Molly, Charlie, Oscar, Lucy, Holly and Max as popular as ever, while the clinic have tipped Felix to be the big cat name of 2016.
"Naming our pets is an opportunity for our imaginations to run wild," Aoife Caulfield of Just Cats Veterinary Clinic said.
"Unlike when naming our own offspring, we are not limited by societal norms or expectations"
