EXPERTS are preparing to begin the painstaking task of repairing and restoring the damaged Monet painting. The job of assessing how the painting can be saved will be done by the gallery's own conservation department.
Last night, one expert conservator said that for something as important as a Monet, the team would not "jump straight in" and might consult with other museums that housed significant collections of the artist's works.
"Monet is very high-profile and I would imagine they will talk to people with experience of working with Monet," he said. "There are so many different ways to approach this job and they will have to look at the type of canvas and primers used."
