Referee collapses and dies during GAA game

A REFEREE tragically passed away while officiating at a camogie match in Cork yesterday

The tragedy happened in Douglas, Cork. It is understood that the man, who was in his late 40s and from east Cork, collapsed during an under-16 game between Douglas Camogie Club and Brian Dillons GAA.

Medical personnel treated him using a defibrillator before he was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A spokesperson from Douglas Camogie Club said: “We would like to wish our condolences to the man’s family and friends. It is an awful tragedy and we would just like to express our deepest sympathies.”

The father of four was a member of Carrigtwohill GAA club, where he worked with   youth teams.
