A mix of blue skies and torrential downpours left people reaching for their umbrellas and their sunscreen this weekend.

Unfortunately, it looks like we can expect even more summer showers in the coming days.

Today will be overcast, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the country.

Showers will become heavier in the afternoon, with the possibility of thunder in some parts of the country. Rain clouds will hang heavy in the sky on Tuesday and Wednesday, with thunderstorms and torrential downpours in the east of the country.

There will be some respite on Saturday, which will be dry and sunny, but rain is set to move in from the Atlantic on Sunday.
