Protesters brought traffic to a standstill in Clondalkin, Dublin, earlier today when they attempted to blockade a car in which Tanaiste Joan Burton was travelling.
Dozens of protesters surrounded Ms Burton's 2013 registered black Audi as she left a 'Skills for Work Week' event at Musgrave Retail Partners in Fonthill Retail Park just before midday.
There was a strong Garda presence as the car in which Ms Burton travelled was forced to slow to a crawl, bringing vehicles behind to a stop while the protesters chanted.
One of the protesters, a 17-year-old local who did not wish to be named, said the protesting was about "so much more than water charges".
"It's the end now. We're standing up against the cuts. I'm 17, and I'm standing here today to tell Joan Burton that young people will not take it anymore," he said.
Ms Burton did not appear flustered by the commotion however, and appeared to be smiling as she chatted with another passenger.
It's understood Ms Burton managed to leave the area shortly after 12.30pm.
