Prospect of Lee return is raised amid the fallout

THE intriguing possibility of George Lee doing another about-turn and returning to run Fine Gael's economic policy was raised on message boards last night.

A long-shot perhaps, but Enda Kenny holding on to power was no tap-in a few hours earlier either.

Not that the initial reaction to that result suggested anything other than that Fine Gael had shot itself in the foot.

"Will we give him six months before he's gone?" asked the first poster on politics.ie

"Turkeys have voted for Christmas," claimed the next.

"I respect their democratic right to elect whoever they want as leader -- but I can't respect their right to be so bloody stupid," claimed Sailor, respecting no one at all.

"Now we have Enda as leader and nobody capable of handling finance."

The Fianna Fail supporters were relatively quiet, possibly unable to express their views as they were too busy disbelieving their own luck.

But some Fine Gaelers filled in the gaps.

"Never has the term 'grasped defeat from the jaws of victory' been so apt," claimed one poster named Meriwether.

"We were in line for 70 seats about a month ago. Now we don't have a front bench!"
