Probe launched in Mayo as man dies in garda car after nightclub arrest
A MAN has died in a Garda car after being arrested over an incident in a nightclub.
The Garda Ombudsman is investigating the death of the 39-year-old at Castlebar Garda Station, Co Mayo.
Investigators have appealed for witnesses to an incident in Cox's nightclub in Castlebar at about 1am today to contact 1890 600 800.
The man was arrested at the scene and was being taken to the station, but gardai found he was unresponsive when they arrived at Castlebar Garda Station.
Gardai tried to revive the man but he was pronounced dead in hospital.
Meanwhile, gardai have appealed for the public to help identify a man whose body was recovered from the sea at the Cliffs of Moher.
The remains, discovered on May 22, had been in the water for about 24 hours.
An admission ticket for O'Brien's Tower at the Cliffs of Moher and a Bus Eireann timetable, Galway to Doolin, were found on him.
A Garda spokesman said: "Extensive inquiries have been carried out here and abroad through our colleagues in Interpol but there has been no positive identification of the deceased to date."
The dead man is white, approximately 30 years old, about 5ft 10in, is predominantly bald with dark hair on the side and back of his head, and had no distinguishing marks, tattoos or scars.
He was wearing a black rain/sports jacket, a grey hoodie with the word 'BROOKLYN 62' stamped on the left chest.
Gardai are not treating the death as suspicious.
