Probe as man crushed to death at work
GARDAI are investigating the death of a man who was crushed in a workplace accident, writes Brendan Farrelly.
It is understood the 68-year-old, named locally as Tom Wilkinson of Athy, Co Kildare, was working on a trailer when it came down on top of him.
He died at the scene. The incident happened in the forecourt of a breaker's yard at Tankerstown, Barrowhouse, Co Laois.
He was found by a man who called to the yard. His body was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.
Mr Wilkinson's wife died last year.
An inspector for the Health and Safety Authority called to the yard after the accident, which happened about 9.30am yesterday.
