President Higgins reaches out to expats in UK
PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins has paid tribute to English people who have helped vulnerable members of the Irish community abroad.
Yesterday was the final day of his trip to the north-west of England, where he and his wife Sabina (pictured) met large numbers of Irish people living in Liverpool and Manchester.
Speaking at the site of a new €4.3m Irish centre in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester, Mr Higgins said his three-day visit had been both warm and exciting.
He said he had emphasised "my gratitude to all of those people who have been helping the Irish people in all of their vulnerabilities".
