President Higgins leaves on two-day state visit to Britain
PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins was making an official visit to London today - his first overseas trip as President.
The President and his wife Sabina will tour London's Olympic Games site and meet emigrant groups and members of the Irish business community during the two-day state visit.
Mr Higgins has appointed an Irish woman living in Britain to the Council of State as an advisor on emigrant affairs, and was the only presidential candidate to visit Britain during his campaign.
Among his engagements is a visit to the Camden Irish Centre in North London as well as a performance of Juno and the Paycock - a joint production between the Abbey Theatre and the National Theatre of Great Britain.
