Powerful N-Bomb drug - responsible for spate of deaths internationally - responsible for hospitalisation of six in Cork

Testing on hallucinogenic drugs thought responsible for the hospitalisation of six people in Cork has revealed it is not the designer drug 2CB but a powerful and potentially lethal drug with the street name N-Bomb which is thought to have been responsible for a spate of deaths in other countries.

Reports this week described how an 18-year-old man is in a critical condition after taking drugs at a house party in the Greenmount area of the city.

One student was seen dancing naked on shards of glass unaware of the pain and covered in blood while a young man was collapsed on the ground apparently having a heart attack.

The drugs were tested by Forensic Science Ireland in Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park and today it emerged that they are not the ecstasy-derived 2CB but in fact a very potent LSD derived drug which can be lethal in small doses.

Dr Sheila Willis, the Director General of FSI, today told Independent.ie that tests revealed the drug samples were from a family of synthetic psychoactive substances “commonly called Ioda N-Bombs recognised as causing deaths in other countries”.
