Gardaí are awaiting the full results of a post mortem on the body of a man found dead in a car park in icy weather.

The body of Paul Gorman (49) was found in the car park of the Long Walk Shopping Centre in Dundalk by staff around noon last Friday.

Mr Gorman, who has family living locally, is understood to have slept rough from time to time.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that while they are awaiting the full results of the post-mortem, "foul play is not suspected at this stage".

It is standard procedure to test for the presence of alcohol or drugs, and those results can take a number of weeks to be returned.

A friend of Mr Gorman said that he had once worked as a chef and was well known in Dundalk.

His death notice confirmed that he left a partner and had four children, including a daughter who had previously died.
