The Irish Postmasters' Union (IPU) will hold a protest tomorrow outside the GPO in Dublin in opposition to potential closures of up to 200 post offices around the country.
IPU general secretary Ned O'Hara said the Government must immediately intervene and stop An Post from stalling a €56m network development plan devised by businessman Bobby Kerr.
Mr O'Hara said: "We met with Michael Ring's office at the end of January and we will be holding another meeting Monday week. We find An Post do not have the same urgency as the IPU on the issue.
"There will be limited numbers of IPU representatives on protest, around 50, as many of the postmasters are contractors."
An Post's CEO, David McRedmond, said that it wants to stall any decision on future planning for the post office network until at least next May, while it works on a separate post office strategy of its own, and has signalled the potential for significant post office closures.
