What it all costs
Posters can cost from €2 to €9 depending on their size and quality. The most common cost around €5 each (including the plastic ties).
Those running for local councils are estimated to spend at least 60pc of their campaign budgets on posters.
The main political parties cover some, but not all, of their candidate's election expenses, but there are strict rules in place. The spending limit for a candidate at a European election is €230,000.
Local election candidates can spend €13,000, €11,500 or €9,750 depending on their electoral area.
