TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar has said there's a possibility US President Donald Trump will visit Ireland next months.

It comes amid reports that the US Secret Service are expected in Co Clare this week to scope out logistics and security arrangements for a presidential visit.

Mr Varadkar quipped that the "US Secret Service mustn't be all that secret" if the media found out about the visit.

He said: "There's a possibility of a visit in June.

"The President is going to be in Europe. But we've had no confirmation of it at this stage."

If Mr Trump does visit Ireland he's expected to go to his hotel and golf resort at Doonbeg in Co Clare.

Earlier this week the Irish Independent revealed that he is set to choose between his resort in Ireland or one of his Scottish hotels if he tacks on a round of golf during his trip to Europe in June.

He is due in France next month for D-Day commemorations and in Britain for a State visit.
